Caltagirone ceramics: what the PGI process actually records
In July, the Region announced the national stage of the application.
On 10 July 2026, Sicily’s regional government reported the national publication of the application and specification for Caltagirone ceramics PGI. The step concerns protection for a craft rooted in the area.
The notice describes a process still requiring completion and subsequent European assessment. It does not establish final registration. For workshops, the issue concerns recognition and the value attached to their work.
